This Blog started out as a record of my efforts to compete in the Gt Eastern Half Marathon 2006. Since then I entered but had to withdraw from Flora London Marathon 2008 due to injury. After having to take months off to recover I am now ready and willing to become a runner again!

Up-date

Well, I've had a bit of a mixed week. Last Saturday I pushed the distance a bit and did 4 miles without too much trouble. I even went for a bike ride in the afternoon round part of the Green Wheel covering a distance of 20 miles.

The Peterborough Millennium Green Wheel is a continuous network of cycleways, footpaths and bridleways that provide safe, continuous routes around the city, through picturesque stone villages, the Fens and the scenic Nene valley.

Not only does the Green Wheel contribute to a sustainable transport system, it also celebrates over 3000 years of social, cultural and economic history through colourful interpretation boards and a series of sculptures. This is the Millenium Bridge and you can see more images from the Green Wheel here!

I then went out for a run on Tuesday morning. It was very dark so I decided to go on a route that was mostly lit up by street lights. It was OK and I ran for 1 1/2 miles there and back so 3 miles in total. I was really keen to try and start building up my mileage.

However, during the day I could feel my lower back and top of my right leg (quads) really starting to seize up and become very sore. It wasn't until Friday that I felt ok again. This is really getting me down - I feel I'm just not meant to run!

I'm going for a run tomorrow morning with Rhona and will see how I get on then.

Wednesday morning

It was so dark this morning that I had to leave it half an hour before I went out. It was drizzling but that didn't worry me as I like a bit of drizzle!

I headed off the opposite way to which I usually go as that is better lit for the first mile or so. I then turned into the park and then nearly turned back as it was still so dark - but decided to brave it and carried on ahead.

It's still not getting any easier....

Monday's news

Managed to drag myself out of bed again to do my Monday morning run. I still only did the 2 mile route but think I may have to start lengthening it soon as my acceptance for the London Marathon arrived in the post today!

Saturday morning

OMG ! that was hard work - just got back from my run with Rhona. We just did the same as last week but this was difficult from the start. My legs felt heavy, my breathing was laboured and even my stomach ached! and to cap it all it was HOT! Actually, it was a beautiful morning, what's going on? Glad it is over....got the whole day to recover.

Wed morning

I managed to drag myself out of bed on Wednesday and do the morning run. The hardest bit was the getting out of bed! I managed to run a little bit quicker and did it at 10 min miling. So, some improvement.

Unfortunately I just couldn't get up on Friday to run but I made up for it by cycling to work on Thursday and Friday - it's not a mega distance - just 3 miles - but it's better than nothing.

Monday Morning

I'm not at work today so my morning run was a bit later than the usual 6.30 am. In fact, by the time I went out at 9.15 am the sun was shining and it was very warm, beautiful. Didn't make the run any easier though. I must remind myself that it will get easier, it will get easier, it will get easier.....

Usual run, just the 2 mile loop round the small lake.

Distance: 2.2 miles
Time: 22.24
Pace: 10.11

Saturday morning

I set my alarm and met Rhona for our first Saturday morning run in a long time. It was freezing but I soon warmed up. It was great meeting up and the time passed by so quickly, I could hardly believe we had come to the end of the run. We were so busy catching up on our news that the three miles whizzed by!

Distance: 3 miles
Time: 31.01
Pace: 10:19

Friday morning

It was still dark this morning when I put my running shoes on and went for my run. It was quite windy and a bit cool but after a mile I was soon warmed up and day broke through. It's a good way to start the day!

I felt I was going a bit faster than the two previous runs and on checking my time when I got home, i had gone slightly faster. It's still a struggle to just run a couple of miles but the good news is that I still don't see any signs of the old injury.

Plan to go out tomorrow morning with Rhona and do a slightly longer run, just over 3 miles.

Distance: 2.15
Time: 22.02
Pace: 10:14

Wed morning jog

With no repercussions from Monday's run, I got up early again today and did the usual 2 mile run. It was a bit windier today but at least it wasn't raining. My legs were a bit stiff to start with but they soon loosened up. My breathing was still quite laboured but on the whole I think I can say I enjoyed the run. It's hard to remember a time when it was a doddle to run a couple of miles but I know I can get to that point again, I just have to be patient.
